AAC – NCS – Mount Rushmore Climbing EA

Hello North Central Section of the American Alpine Club,

For the past 12 months the National Park Service at Mount Rushmore National Memorial has been working on the Environmental Assessment and the proposed plan for the climbing Climbing at Rushmore trails/Kiosks/ and Parking changes at Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

The public comment period is open until June 8th and there should be an public open house/forum coming up in the next couple weeks where input could also be provided. The Black Hills Climbers Coalition and the North Central Section of the American Alpine club have assisted in the planning and the changes should positively impact climbing at the Memorial.

Your input and response the EA is critical to keeping Mount Rushmore National Memorial a climbing destination. Please provide your input.

The planning website, http://parkplanning.nps.gov/, contains information on the EA and provides an avenue for public comment. To make a comment online, please go to the planning website, search by park name “Mount Rushmore NMem” and click on the project title “Hiking Trails to Climbing Areas Draft Environmental Assessment.” Comments can be made by clicking on “Open for Public Comment” then following the prompts. The website is available for public comment until June 8, 2013.
