AAC Headquarters Going Solar
By Emma Walker, AAC Conservation & Advocacy Intern
The American Alpine Club is passionate about conserving the places you love to climb, and now we’re embarking on greening our home. The American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colorado houses the AAC along with the Colorado Mountain Club, Big City Mountaineers, the American Mountaineering Museum, and the Henry S. Hall, Jr. American Alpine Club Library, and thanks to all of your votes this summer, our building has won a local contest that will provide the AMC with up to a 10kW solar electric system.
The “Solarize Golden” contest was sponsored by Real Goods Solar, Inc. (RGS), which has installed over 11,000 solar systems in homes, businesses, government facilities, and universities across the United States.
Here’s how the contest works: for each home that goes solar between now and the end of November, RGS will donate a solar panel to the AMC. For more information about how you can power your home with solar energy—which can be financed through a Power Purchase Agreement with zero or very little money down—visit the Solarize Golden website and fill out the form. You can also call Real Goods Solar at 1-877-557-2299. (Be sure to mention the American Mountaineering Center!)
The AAC would like to thank everyone who voted for the AMC in the Solarize Golden contest, and encourage those who have been considering solar power for their homes to take this cost-saving step today. Homeowners living in the Front Range of Colorado are eligible. Solar panels will be installed at the AMC in 2013.
