AAC Southern Appalachian Section
Wilderness First Aid Class
October 6 – 7
Umstead State Park, Raleigh, NC

Are you prepared to deal with a medical emergency in a remote climbing area? Could you provide appropriate care for an injured rope-mate in the event of a climbing accident? When did you last refresh your first aid skills?

The American Alpine Club—Southern Appalachian Section is offering its members a unique opportunity to acquire Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid certification through a class designed for climbers, taught by a climber.

WFA is a basic class in back country emergency response. The 16 hour course will be tailored by the instructor, AAC member Danny McCracken, to the specifics of the remote climbing environment—far from EMS services. The class will cover assessment and urgent first aid techniques. It is appropriate for anyone regardless of experience level.

Successful completion of the course results in three year certification. A CPR prerequisite is required to get the certification. You may take the class without having taken CPR but cannot receive the American Red Cross certification.

The fee for the class and all class materials will be $60 for AAC members and $140 for non-members.

The class will be taught at Umstead State Park, Raleigh, NC. Class time is 9 AM to 5 PM each day. The park has camping sites available.

Hotel information is also available from Danny McCracken at the email address below.
