Delaware Water Gap – August 4

Posted on: July 25th, 2012 by Blue Ridge Section

You may have seen the recent announcement by the Mid-Atlantic Section (yes, there is one) of a planned event at the Delaware Water Gap on August 4, 2012. The intention is to climb and socialize with AAC members. Weather permitting; a group from the Blue Ridge Section will head up for a weekend’s climbing at the Gap and possibly other crags nearby in PA and NJ.

Arrangements will depend on the number of people participating, so please let me know if you’re interested in participating – email Simon Carr.

Details as provided by the Mid-Atlantic Section.

Looking to go climbing for the day but don’t have a climbing partner? Want to explore a new climbing area? Join AAC Members in the Mid-Atlantic Section for a day of multi-pitch climbing in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DWGNRA or DWG). Share the end of a rope with other AAC members and climb routes on either New Jersey’s Mount Tammany or Pennsylvania’s Mount Minsi.

We will meet as a group in the parking lot of the Pennsylvania Welcome Center located directly off I-80 and River Road (located on the Pennsylvania side of the DWG). Both sides of the DWG can easily be accessed from the visitor’s center parking lot. Members can peruse guidebooks, partner up, and select routes and drive over to the trailhead from this central meeting spot. After the climbing, meet at the Deerhead Inn for diner and drinks.

 Date: Saturday, August 4 2012, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

  Recommended climbing guide books:

                  – The New Jersey Rock Climbing Guide published by Falcon Press

                  – Rock Climbing Guide to the Delaware Water Gap by Michael Steele

                  – Climbing Pennsylvania by Rob Holzman
