“The Old Breed” Event Raised $7,000 for the Vantage Toilet Project

If you’ve climbed at Vantage recently, chances are you felt like something was missing. It could have been the clouds we’re used to in Seattle. Or maybe it was something else…a toilet?

Traffic at Vantage has grown so much that human waste now poses a serious threat to the fragile desert environment. By partnering to implement a permanent toilet solution, The American Alpine Club, the Washington Climbers Coalition, and The Mountaineers hope to protect the area for future generations.

“The Old Breed” event wrap-up

Fundraising efforts are underway and the May 17 event premiering “The Old Breed” raised an impressive $7,000.00 for the Vantage Toilet Project.

The film was followed by a question and answer session with Fitz Cahall and Steve Swenson, who the AAC would like to thank for graciously donating their time—their busy schedules make their involvement that much more special. The AAC also thanks all the hardworking AAC, WCC, and Mountaineers volunteers who made the event a success.

Would you like to contribute?

We need the help of all climbers in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho in order to reach our project goal of $60,000.00 to $80,000.00 by May 2013! Please contact us if you’d like to volunteer. You can also donate to the cause online at http://www.washingtonclimbers.org/Current/VantagePot.htm or by mailing the Washington Climbers Coalition at P.O. Box 77315, Seattle, WA 98113.
