Harvey Carter—famed for the first ascents of three of the four Fisher Tower spires, The Priest, and hundreds more in Glenwood Canyon, Independence Pass—died Tuesday in Colorado Springs after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Carter was the founder of Climbing Magazine and operated it for two years before its sale to Bil Dunaway. He joined the Aspen, CO ski patrol in the late 50s and mentored many climbers and skiers who would go on to become legends in their own right.

More information and remembrances in the Aspen Times.
