Festival Internacional to Feature Culture, Climbing
We received an email from one of our International Members about this upcoming event in Mexico. Since this event falls outside the normal events-scope of our Regional Coordinators and Sections, we figured we’d post it here, in case anyone in Mexico (or travelling to Mexico) is looking for something to do. It sounds like a good time!
This March 16 through 18, the Festival Internacional de Escalada Calderones will be held in the city of Guanajuato Capital, Mexico. The festival, sponsored by the likes of Petzl, La Sportiva, and Salomon, will include conferences, clinics on topics such as climbing yoga and slacklining, equipment demos by Black Diamond and others, and live music.
Two special guests will attend the Festival Calderones: Spanish mental training guru Arno Ilgner, the author of such books as The Rock Warrior, and professional climber Dani Andrada. Both will instruct several clinics throughout the weekend.
The location of this year’s Festival Calderones provides unique opportunities for climbers to experience a variety of climbs, including an area for bouldering as well as potential for a sport routes “to suit all tastes and all grades,” according to AAC Member Armando Navarrete, an organizer of the event. Along with the national launch of a new area, known as Las Gachas, the proximity of the 2012 Festival to Guanajuato will provide abundant opportunities to explore the local culture. Admission to the Festival is 150 pesos, and many of the weekend’s events are free of charge. For more information, visit the Festival’s website.
