Represent the AAC on a Climbing Trip to Scotland

Every year, the British Mountaineering Council hosts an International Meet, a weeklong gathering of climbers from around the world. The AAC will send two lucky members to this year’s Winter Meet, located in Scotland’s Cairngorms. Interested? Become a member of the AAC and follow the application instructions below.

This Winter’s Meet will be held January 22-29, 2012. Selected Club representatives, chosen by the AAC staff, are responsible for paying airfare and a 100-pound fee that covers all food, lodging, and transportation within the UK. Jay Hack attended the Summer Meet in Wales and had many great things to say about it.

Application Information:

Please send the application materials listed below to the AAC. A selection committee will choose from the applicants and submit their applications to the BMC by October 14.

Application Materials: Please submit a one-page climbing resume AND one-page cover letter detailing why YOU should represent the AAC at this event. (To take part in this event climbers MUST have winter climbing experience. Please detail this in your application.)

BMC Meets promote international friendships and increase communication between national climbing organizations, provide an opportunity for overseas climbers to experience the diversity of UK climbing, give international guests an insight into British climbing traditions and ethics, and open international debate and discussion about current topics of worldwide concern in climbing and mountaineering. International guests are paired with British Hosts for daytime climbing, followed by evening presentations and discussions from and with international attendees. The BMC Meets are not intended solely for top-end climbers, as diversity enhances the conversation for all attending. The meets have been, and continue to be, made up of people from a whole range of climbing experiences and grades. Approxiamtely 35 international guests will be attending the Meet.

BMC International Winter Climbing Meet 2012

22 – 29 January

Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore, Scotland

The BMC International Winter Meet 2012 will be held at Glenmore Lodge in the heart of the Cairngorms. As an international guest you will be paired with UK host climbers who will take you out during the days and show you the full delights of Scottish winter climbing. There will be excellent presentations in the evenings.

EXPERIENCE

To take part in this event climbers need to have experience of climbing routes in winter conditions (using ice axes and crampons) using leader placed protection.

VENUE & DATES

• Venue – Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore, Scotland, PH22 1QU. • Dates – Sunday 22 to Sunday 29 January 2012 • Arrival evening is Sunday 22 January (no climbing on this day). • Departure day is Sunday 29 January (no climbing on this day).

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION

• Representatives are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to the UK.

• Nearest airport – Inverness.

• Nearest train station – Aviemore.

• The BMC will collect guests on 22 January from Inverness Airport at 16:00 and Aviemore Train Station at 17:00.

• The BMC will drop guests off on Sunday 29 January at Inverness airport at 10:00 and at Aviemore train station at 09:30.
