Denali and Rainier: Voice Your Opinion
Fee Increases Possible
Both Denali and Rainier National Parks recently proposed fee increases for their mountaineering visitors, citing an inability to maintain present facilities and services for those and other user groups under the present rate structure. Under pressure from climbers and advocacy groups like the AAC, both parks have opened their fee-increase proposals to public comment until the end of January 2011. Rainier also has released a public meeting schedule, found below.
Denali Environmental Assessment Plan
Denali National Park has also announced a separate proposal to initiate an Environmental Assessment to determine how, in the future, they will allocate a fixed number of permits between commercial guiding services and individual climbers. The Public Comment Period on this issue ends on December 6, 2010.
Whether by email or in person, please take the time to let the Park System know where you stand on these issues.
Comments from the public will be accepted between November 1, 2010 and January 31, 2011. Public Comments may be submitted via email to: DENA_mountainfeecomments@nps.gov or faxed to (907) 683-9612.
