Snowbird Hut Update: 9/04/2010
Labor day weekend provided all kinds of weather, but the changing of the seasons did not deter our dedicated volunteers. Saturday the rain poured down endlessly as the roof plywood was cut and fitted into place.
The windows for the main room were brought into the hut and installed. These are insulated double thermopane 1/4″ glass.
Monday was truly a Labor Day celebration from start to finish! The day dawned clear and windless and all the volunteers were re-charged with new energy to accomplish the task at hand.
Windows were fully installed, the front door hung, the ice and water shield installed on the roof and the trim and soffit stained brick red and installed about the hut.
The inside main living/kitchen area will provide a huge, open feel for the hut.
Labor Day weekend also saw the dusting of snow on the mountains at the 5,000 to 6,000 foot elevation. The push is on to beat the first snow and complete as much of the work as possible.
The next helicopter lift is tentatively scheduled for September 17th. Additional items will be lifted in at that time to allow work on the hut this winter. Mark your calendars (tenatively 9-18-10) and watch for the next work weekend in case you want to volunteer or come in and visit the hut.
