Snowbird Hut Update: 8/31/2010
Snowbird Hut Update 8-31-2010
On August 19th the materials for the next phase of hut construction were helicoptered into the Snowbird site. Six loads of lumber, plywood, windows, insulation, and other supplies were successfully dropped on site by noon of that day.
Co-Chairs James Brady and Harry Hunt dedicated 6 days to working on the hut and overseeing the volunteers that came to help with the construction. There was a tremendous response from the community with many people hiking in and working on the hut.
The floor was decked off, and the walls built and raised. An Alaskan Spruce was placed in the center of the building to provide an asthetic support post for the roof rafters. These rafters will join at this point and provide an open ceiling inside the completed hut.
The amazing view from the hut main living/kitchen area. This will have a huge span of windows installed to provide passive solar and a sweeping view of the valley, glacier and the nunatak.
The next work party is scheduled for Labor Day Weekend. Cindi (Hut Mistress) will be leaving the Reed Lakes trailhead on Saturday Sept 4th at 9:00am. If you want to go out for a day or the entire weekend, please feel free to join up for the hike out to the hut. Even if you just want to see the new location and the hut, feel free to come in and cheer on the volunteers. Please send questions to: firstname.lastname@example.org
