Lumpy Ridge Reunion Planned
This fall will mark the 10th anniversary of the Lumpy Trails Day in Rocky Mountain National Park. To celebrate, longtime event organizer and past AAC Central Rockies Section chair Greg Sievers is organizing a reunion of Lumpy climbers from several generations: three days of parties, gear demos, slide shows, and, yes, trail work in and around Estes Park, Colorado.
Many of America’s top rock climbers have tested themselves and put up new routes on Lumpy’s flared cracks and crystalline granite: Layton Kor, Billy Westbay, John Bachar, Michael Covington, Royal Robbins, Pat Ament, and Mike and Tommy Caldwell, among many others. Although some of these climbers have passed on, Sievers hopes to lure many Lumpy veterans to this fall’s reunion to share stories and photos. Guidebook author and prolific first ascensionist Scott Kimball will do a slide show on Saturday Night.
The event is slated for October 1–3, 2010, in Estes Park. Save the dates, and keep an eye on the AAC websites for updates.
