2010 Cold Stream Canyon – Lost Trail Lodge Ice Climbing Weekend

Posted on: November 23rd, 2009 by Sierra Nevada Section

When: Jan 29, 2010

Back by popular demand, the AAC Sierra Nevada Section’s annual ice climbing weekend is just around the corner and is now open for reservations by members and their guests. Reservations for non-members and non-member guests opens January 1, 2010.

When: January 29-31, 2010
Where: Coldstream Canyon near Truckee
What: Ice climbing weekend, with food, drinks and lodging at the ski/snowshoe in and out, off-the-grid, Lost Trail Lodge in Coldstream Canyon.

Itinerary: Ski/snowshoe in on Friday, January 29; ice climb, ski and/or snowshoe on Saturday and Sunday; then ski/snowshoe out on Sunday, January 31.

Cost: $150 for members; $165 for non-members

Included: 2 nights lodging at the warm, comfortable Lost Trail Lodge; all food and drinks from Friday dinner to Sunday breakfast except lunches which are on your own. Meals are prepared, served, and cleaned up by the group community-style.

Not Included: This event does not include guided ice climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, or travel, and no instruction is being provided. The climbs are all located in close proximity to each other and, as often occurs with traditional climbing community cragging activities, climbers who set up top ropes often offer their use to others. We can advise you of the local guide services if you are looking for instruction or guiding on winter activities. The event does not include any mechanized transport to and from the lodge or the climbs.

Details: The Lost Trail Lodge has various multi-person bedrooms, a large sleeping loft, and a large great room. It has beds for 22-24, and couches and floor space in the great room, such that the lodge can accommodate up to 30 guests total. There are no assigned sleeping quarters. Those who sign up and pay early have priority on a bed over those who sign up later.

Reservations: Tom Cronin at [email protected] has volunteered to handle the reservations. Thank you, Tom!  To reserve your spot, you need to email Tom Cronin and also send him your check. His address is 1140 Fair Weather Circle, Concord, CA 94518. Because this event always sells out, you need to pre-pay to reserve your spot.

Third Night Option: Those interested in also spending Sunday night, January 31, at the lodge and departing on Monday, February 1 have the option of doing so for an additional $25, which includes Sunday dinner and Monday breakfast.

Volunteers needed: We are looking for one or two volunteers to handle the menu planning and food purchasing. We can provide guidelines of what and how much we have brought in the past. Contact Tom Burch at [email protected].

This is a great event and is very popular.  Sign up early so you don’t miss out on the fun.
