New SNS Section Chair – TOM BURCH
If you’ve attended a Section event, then chances are you’ve met Tom Burch or even if not, you’ve benefitted from his behind the scenes organization and support in making these gatherings happen. Tom is a well rounded and well traveled climber of many years. He’s so modest that you won’t hear about it from him, but I will tell you that he’s climbed Everest, Ama Dablam and Kyajo Ri and attempted Makalu among his six Himalayan expeditions, and has aslo climbed many a classic among the Alps, Alaska, Andes, Canadian Rockies, and of course the Sierra Nevada. Some highlights include the Moose’s Tooth in the Alaska Range, a two segment ascent of the High Sierra’s complete Palisade Traverse from Southfork Pass to Jigsaw Pass, and a ski descent of Switzerland’s highest peak the Monte Rosa Dufourspitz. More importantly, he’s the definition of a nice guy that cares a lot about our community. Tom lives in Marin County and frequently escapes to his family’s home in Jackson, Wyoming to climb and ski in the Tetons. Look for vast improvements in Section leadership from Tom!
