AAC Book Club: May 12th, 6-7pm
April’s book club turned out to be a special one: Tom Hornbein sat in to discuss his book, Everest: The West Ridge! Here’s what he had to say: “Thanks immensely for luring me into a truly new experience, at least for this so-called author. Some of the comments and questions opened up whole new thoughts about the experience and its rationale, now 46 years after the event.”
Thanks right back at you, Tom!
May’s meeting with focus on Felice Benuzzi’s book, No Picnic on Mount Kenya
“Detained at P.O.W. Camp 354 near Nanyuki, Kenya, Felice Benuzzi, together with Dr. Giovanni Balletto and Enzo Barsotti, escaped in January 1943 and climbed Mt Kenya with improvised equipment and sparse rations, two of them reaching the Grand Gendarme high up the NW ridge. After an eventful 18-day period on the mountain, and to the astonishment of the British commander, the three adventurers broke back into Camp 354. As reward for their exploit, they each received 28 days in solitary confinement.” – wikipedia
As usual, the Library has plenty of copies available for checkout to AAC members.
